New Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be bigger yet slimmer, with a disappearing crease

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 will have a considerably larger cover display. This is expected to be roughly 3.3 “to 3.4”.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, which isn’t expected to be released for a few months, may address two of the primary complaints about its predecessor, the Z Flip4. At least, if today’s rumour on the subject is correct. The fact that it comes from Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young, who has previously been correct about similar matters, helps the rumour. Keep in mind that he does occasionally get the odd item incorrect, so keep that in mind.

Anyway, here’s hoping that, as Young reports, the Galaxy Z Flip5 will have a considerably larger cover display. This is expected to be roughly 3.3 “to 3.4″, which is an order of magnitude larger than the present 1.9” screen on the Flip4.

For what it’s worth, Oppo’s forthcoming Find N2 Flip, a direct rival to Samsung’s Flip series, leaked earlier today, complete with its own large outside display. While that plainly dwarfs the Flip4, the Flip5 may catch up to, if not surpass, its estimated 3.26 “size.

According to Young, the inside screen is also poised for an improvement, this time in the crease department. The Flip5 is supposed to include a new hinge design that would “minimise the visibility of the seam.” It’s uncertain if it will also help with the crease sensation, but we’ll take what we can get here.

Samsung’s Chinese rivals have routinely released handsets with less apparent (and tangible) creases in their folding displays, so it’s encouraging to see the Korean manufacturer making progress in this area. As the saying goes, better late than never.
